Middlesbrough host Chelsea in an EFL Cup semi-final first-leg in early January, the Teessiders’ first since winning the competition back in 2004.
Boro eliminated Huddersfield Town, Bolton Wanderers, Bradford City, Exeter City and Port Vale – all away from home – to reach the tournament’s final four and set up a first meeting with Chelsea since an FA Cup clash two years ago.
Michael Carrick’s side have lost their previous nine meetings with the Blues from the capital but will hope they can use home advantage against the five-times competition winners.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side last lifted this silverware in 2015 but were defeated by Manchester City and Liverpool on more recent visits to Wembley in 2018/19 and 2021/22.
This encounter, at a packed-out Riverside Stadium on Tuesday 9th January, is sure to be a blockbuster affair and supporters can reserve the official matchday programme from the event.
