Bolton Wanderers remain on course to end a seven-year absence from the Championship but must overcome Bradford City in a challenging two-legged play-off encounter to reach Wembley’s finale.

The Lancashire side fell to Oxford United under the Arch in 2024, as well as missing out in 2023 at the semi-final stage, so will hope it is third time lucky as they aim to avoid a sixth successive campaign at League One level.

Steven Schumacher’s side dropped from third to fifth on the final day of the regular season after a 3-2 home defeat to Luton Town left them two points behind the Bantams.

The West Yorkshire side are targeting back-to-back promotions, having finished third in League Two last season, and will prove obdurate opponents as they look to return to the Championship for the first time since 2004.

There hasn’t been much to separate the sides over three meetings this season, with both league encounters ending in draws. Although Wanderers can take inspiration from the fact that Bradford have only won once at the Toughsheet Community Stadium since 1990 and lost 3-0 when visiting in the EFL Trophy in early December 2025.
