The 151st Scottish Cup will be contested by Celtic and Aberdeen as the top-flight duo go head-to-head to get their hands on the world’s oldest domestic trophy.

The Scottish Premiership leaders, and current Premier Sports Cup holders, remain on course to complete a record-extending ninth domestic treble after reaching the competition’s final on Saturday 24th May in emphatic style with a 5-0 thumping of St Johnstone.

Once again on a well-trodden path to Hampden, Brendan Rodgers’s Hoops will look to defend the silverware they have won for the last two years in what will be their 62nd outing in the final.

Attempting to dethrone the competition’s record winners are an Aberdeen side that last achieved success in the prestigious cup 35 years ago. Since then, the Dons have been runners-up at the national stadium three times; the last occasion being a repeat of this year’s encounter in 2016/17.

However, Jimmy Thelin’s underdogs will be keen to upset the odds and lift the trophy for an eighth time in the club’s history, after seeing off Hearts 2-1 in extra-time of a dramatic semi-final encounter.

The Aberdeenshire Reds lost 6-0 to Celtic in the semi-final of the League Cup back in November - and are without victory against the Glaswegian giants in their previous 29 meetings since 2018 – so will be out for a measure of revenge.
