Manchester City are competing in Europe’s top tier of continental competition for a 16th successive season and conclude their league phase campaign with a visit from Sporting CP in January 2027.

It has been nearly five years since the Portuguese outfit visited the Etihad, earning a goalless draw back in March 2022. The only meeting since that draw saw the Blues lose 4-1 in Lisbon in November 2024.

The Leoes finished second in Portugal’s top-flight last season, as well as placing seventh in the Champions League league phase following five wins in eight matches. They then eliminated Bodo Glimt in the Round of 16 before being eliminated at the quarter-final stage by Arsenal.

Rui Borges’s side will be aiming for further success in this campaign’s competition and the Portuguese giants boast plenty of stars, including captain Goncalo Inacio, hot-shot Luis Suarez and Uruguay international Maxi Araujo.
