Scotland face Slovenia for the first time in almost a decade in October in a second home game of the Nations League campaign.

The two sides previously crossed swords during 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying. A late Chris Martin goal proved decisive at Hampden back in March 2017, before ending the campaign with a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture when a Robert Snodgrass equaliser meant the points were shared.

Slovenia, managed by Bostjan Cesar, didn’t qualify for last summer’s World Cup but international friendlies in June saw them draw with Cyprus in Ljubljana and lose narrowly to Croatia.

Standing 56th in the latest FIFA world rankings, Scotland’s Group B1 opponents will provide a stern test and have some impressive talent in their ranks including Leeds United defender Jaka Bijol, captain Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid and Swansea City frontman Zan Vipotnik.
