Southampton are the Championship’s form side entering the end of season play-offs and face Middlesbrough in a semi-final second-leg showdown at St Mary’s.

The Saints, who are on a 19-game league unbeaten run, finished fourth in the second-tier table after a final-day victory over Preston North End to edge ahead of Boro on goal difference.  

Boss Tonda Eckert believes his galvanised squad are ready for the “next step” and they certainly have recent play-off pedigree after winning at Wembley in 2024 over Leeds United to seal promotion.

Although Saints remain on course for an immediate return to the top-flight, Boro will prove stubborn opponents. A 4-0 loss at Riverside Stadium in early January to the Teessiders was the last time the South Coast club lost on the road in the Championship.
