UTB TRIBUTE

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough paid tribute to club record holder David Armstrong on the front of their official matchday publication after the former midfielder’s death aged 67 this month.

Armstrong spent a decade with Boro from 1971 and holds the club record for most consecutive games played, accumulating 358 between March 1972 and August 1980.

The Championship club showed their respects to the former Boro legend, a member of Jack Charlton’s Second Division promotion-winning squad of 1973/74, with a fetching monotone action shot of the former England international on the cover of ‘UTB’ for the visit of Swansea City to Riverside Stadium on Saturday 27th August.

A classy left-footer, Armstrong made nearly 300 appearances for Southampton and served Bournemouth during a stellar career.

Middlesbrough paid tribute to their former great, saying: “The club is saddened to learn of the passing of the legendary David “Spike” Armstrong. The thoughts of everyone connected with MFC are with his family and friends at this time.”
